The goal of “MULTI2HYCAT” is the development of innovative hybrid and multifunctional materials, consisting of partly organic and partly inorganic elements. The mission is to improve and render some industrial processes for the production of chemical and pharmaceutical compounds more sustainable, less polluting and safer.

The final objective is to offer alternative processes to those currently used industrially, allowing the reduction of costs and pollution by sub-products and solvents that require disposal, as well as lowering energy consumption thanks to the use of new methods of synthesis of chemical products. In fact, the innovative materials developed during the project will be able to complete multi-step catalytic processes with high conversion and selectivity toward the desired products; in other words, these materials will be capable of producing chemical and pharmaceutical compounds with reduced economic and environmental costs.

Project Partners: UPO (Coordinator); University of Southampton (UK), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (France), Instituto de Tecnología Química (UPV-CSIC) del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (Spain),  SOLVAY (Belgium), Almirall S.A. (Spain), PNO Consultants Gmbh (Germany) and Cage Chemicals Srl (Italy), a UPO spin-off.
