Age-It is one of the 14 extended partnerships financed by the MUR at national level within the framework of the PNRR, through Mission 4 ‘Education and Research’, Component 2 ‘From Research to Enterprise’, investment line 1.3 Extended Partnerships to Universities, Research Centres, Enterprises and Research Project Financing.

The Age-It project has the ambitious aim of studying ageing, its consequences and how to challenge it. The most recent scientific research agrees that life is clearly getting longer, but it is equally important to assess the quality of ageing. Italy is among the ‘oldest’ countries both in Europe and worldwide, so it is crucial to develop and implement strategies that can on the one hand improve the quality of life of the elderly, for example by preventing the onset of age-related diseases. On the other hand, it is also important to consider changes in society's approach, e.g. by considering changes in the healthcare system.

The Age-It project therefore aims to study ageing in all its effects on society, considering all the aspects involved, from scientific research to the sociological aspect.

Age-It is organised in a network made up of universities, research organisations and enterprises for a total of 27 subjects organised according to a Hub & Spoke model in which the proposing subject is the University of Florence.

To achieve this aim, the partnership includes the following partners the University of Milan Bicocca, the University of Eastern Piedmont ‘Amedeo Avogadro’, the University of Padua, the University Ca' Foscari of Venice, the University of Bologna, the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, the University of Naples Federico II, the University of Molise, the University “Aldo Moro” of Bari, the University of Calabria, the University “Luigi Bocconi”, the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, as well as the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (National Research Council), the Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA), the Istituto Nazionale di Statistica (ISTAT), the Istituto Nazionale Previdenza Sociale (INPS), the Istituto Nazionale di Ricovero e Cura per gli Anziani (INRCA) Tech4Care, Generali Italia, HealthWare Group, Beta 80 S. p.a. Software e Sistemi, Municipia Spa, Confcooperative and Sanofi.

Università del Piemonte Orientale is the leader and coordinator of Spoke 10 which has the task of integrating ageing through the creation of institutional mechanisms for a better future-oriented policy.
