“Eco-sustainable development of ultra-porous polymers and carbons for hydrogen storage and transport”

ECOSTORE-H2 pursues the ambitious and challenging goal of developing new sustainable, eco-friendly, stable and economical ultra-porous materials capable of increasing the storage capacity of H2 at 100 bar beyond the limit of 40 g/L, i.e. a capacity equivalent to the content of current H2 cylinders compressed at a pressure of 700 bar. In line with Green Economy policies, the project involves the recycling and application of secondary raw materials, e.g. plastic waste from construction and packaging (i.e. polystyrene (PS) or polylactic acid -PLA), to obtain new ultra-porous adsorbents.

The University participates in the project as leader – Research Director, Prof. Leonardo Marchese - in collaboration with the Institute for Composite Polymers and Biomaterials of the National Research Council, the University of Sannio, the Fiat Research Center and the SOL Group Spa.

The three-year project has acquired a total funding of €3,816,737.50, of which €1,545,005.00 is destined for the University.
